About DJ Sam Kelly
At only 21, DJ Sam Kelly is fresh on the scene. But what he lacks in age, he makes up for in feel-good enthusiasm and skill. Sam specialises in Chart, Cheese, and Dance, playing the tunes everyone is talking about, the tunes you forgot you loved, and the tunes you wouldn’t normally admit to loving. He loves taking requests and won’t end a night until everyone is singing along.
What made you want become a DJ?
When I first started going to university the house parties were always at mine. So it fell to me to do the music. I loved the feel of the whole house bouncing to my rhythm and just making everyone feel good. Ultimately that’s how I came to start messing around with decks.
Whats been the highlight of your career so far?
Playing a gig in Trafalgar Square. It was only a small thing for Euroleague basketball. And I was held captive by Cheerleaders.
Whats the Weirdest thing that’s happened to you in a dj booth?
Had a half hour conversation with my Grandmother. She just wouldn’t let up. I could barely hear her on the phone, but that does not stop a talkative pensioner.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Smothering myself in ice cream and letting my cat lick it off. I sometimes drink from the carton.
Name from memory 5 things in your fridge at the moment?
Lube (my ex liked it chilled)
Favorite TV show as a kid?
I’m just gunna say it. Pokémon. Yes. I was that nerdy kid.
How did you come out?
At school everyone kinda knew after rumours about me and a few guys started spreading. I just went with it. No one really minded. It was an all-boys school after all. Plus it covered up the true extent of my whoremongery.
To my mother, I was singing Katy Perry – Firework, in falsetto (really damn high), in the car, she turned to me, asked the question. I reprimanded her for choosing that moment to ask, but confessed anyways. Apparently she always knew, just didn’t have the heart to ask me to be a little quieter with the guys I brought home.
Where was your first gig?
The local pub that I was a chef at. The DJ for a wedding got arrested, so they asked if I could jump in. I got the first dance song wrong.
If you could sleep with 3 celebrities who would they be?
Definitely not Madeon
I would do terrible, terrible things to have Cumberbatch whisper in my ear whilst I was climaxing.
One piece of advice I would give for life is?
No matter how much you think it’s a good idea. Nothing involving food and sex ever ends well. Unless it’s strawberries. Or chocolate. Or cheese…
On second thoughts. Forget I said anything.
